A rare style of antique postal scales(the scales don't come with any weightson the flat brass plate it states; the graduated arm goes from 0 tocan post at extra costi have tried some of my own weights & suprisingly they're still fairly accuratethe wooden base looks like it's split to the rare edge & has been historically gluedthe base is approx just under " at its longest part & 5" at its widest partthe underside of the base amazingly still has its original paper liningthe flat brass plate also has two brass tabs, to prevent letters from migrating towards the graduated armthese are fresh to the market & rarely come up for sale, as they're getting very hard to findi'm sure they could be further improved by someone who knows what they're doing, but i've just left them in "as found" conditionthe centre pivot is just over 4 1/4" highthere are a few scratches, both on the brass, the counter weight & on the wooden lacquered basepostage includes being signed forthe weights in some of the images are just there to help to demonstrate that it balances)in expected used condition for a balance of this age & naturei haven't noticed a maker stamp or nameplease feel free to make an offerplease study the images, as they also form part of the description & please do your own researchi think they originally would have been silver or silver plated, as the counter weight still has some silvering on itthere are expected impact marks, where the bottom of the counter weight has impacted the wooden basethey would polish up nicely toothere's a large piece of lead screwed to the underside of the brass plate, i'm guessing to calibrate it
