A rare style of antique postal scales(the scales don't come with any weightsin expected used condition for a balance of this age & naturethese are fresh to the market & rarely come up for sale, as they're getting very hard to findi haven't noticed a maker stamp or namethe flat brass plate also has two brass tabs, to prevent letters from migrating towards the graduated armthe weights in some of the images are just there to help to demonstrate that it balances)i think they originally would have been silver or silver plated, as the counter weight still has some silvering on itthere are a few scratches, both on the brass, the counter weight & on the wooden lacquered basepostage includes being signed forplease feel free to make an offerthe centre pivot is just over 4 1/4" highthe wooden base looks like it's split to the rare edge & has been historically gluedi have tried some of my own weights & suprisingly they're still fairly accuratethe base is approx just under " at its longest part & 5" at its widest partthe underside of the base amazingly still has its original paper liningthere's a large piece of lead screwed to the underside of the brass plate, i'm guessing to calibrate itplease study the images, as they also form part of the description & please do your own researchi'm sure they could be further improved by someone who knows what they're doing, but i've just left them in "as found" conditionthere are expected impact marks, where the bottom of the counter weight has impacted the wooden baseon the flat brass plate it states; the graduated arm goes from 0 tocan post at extra costthey would polish up nicely too
