A rare style of antique postal scales(the scales don't come with any weightsthe base is approx just under " at its longest part & 5" at its widest partthese are fresh to the market & rarely come up for sale, as they're getting very hard to findi haven't noticed a maker stamp or namei have tried some of my own weights & suprisingly they're still fairly accuratei'm sure they could be further improved by someone who knows what they're doing, but i've just left them in "as found" conditionon the flat brass plate it states; the graduated arm goes from 0 tothey would polish up nicely toopostage includes being signed forin expected used condition for a balance of this age & naturethe weights in some of the images are just there to help to demonstrate that it balances)please study the images, as they also form part of the description & please do your own researchthe flat brass plate also has two brass tabs, to prevent letters from migrating towards the graduated armthe wooden base looks like it's split to the rare edge & has been historically gluedthere are a few scratches, both on the brass, the counter weight & on the wooden lacquered basethe centre pivot is just over 4 1/4" highthere's a large piece of lead screwed to the underside of the brass plate, i'm guessing to calibrate itthe underside of the base amazingly still has its original paper liningplease feel free to make an offerthere are expected impact marks, where the bottom of the counter weight has impacted the wooden basei think they originally would have been silver or silver plated, as the counter weight still has some silvering on itcan post at extra cost

antique boxed coin balance/scales that i have owned for over 35 yearsin expected used but good condition for an item of this agethere is green velvet inside, which has a little expected warethey look very early to me, i suspect from around the mid 'sthe balance is very intricate & finely madeit's amazing it's survived2 slots are for weighs & one for the early iron balance itselfthe pans have small circles on their inside, which is a nice touchit still has its original silk tassel to hold them byplease do your own research can post at extra costit's hook & hinges are all hand made from wirethe box measures approx 6 3/4" long at its longestthey have a nice hand written label on the inside of the lid, which states "foreign coin & english coin"the pointer needle is almost like a needle it's so finepostage includes being signed forthe hardwood box is in lovely condition & looks like mahoganyall hollowed out from a single piece of woodthere are 3 compartments inside
