  • Better SRM optimization is mandatory

add burden on the CPU but the security is fully customised. When I use my connection fully 100Mbs that goes usually at 110Mbs, I have seen the CPU goes up to 85% serving 6 or more internal clients under same setup as above. I would conclude that I am worried about the CPU levels (the free memory is 140MB) with 1 WAN. The hardware is clearly to its limits or the software is not matured now. More ports would no be managed since the CPU is way underpowered for the task. I would like to confirm poor wifi performance on 2.4Ghz 75~85 Mbs against 99 Mbs (Virgin Router 2AC - first virgin AC iteration 887 Mbs ) Hopefully will be fixed with a software update. No problems on Virginmedia bridge-synology link, and none expected; full speed both directions. Best 5G range performance I have seen. Suitable for home use and small small SOHO but it may not be up to the task for heavy Gaming (better than VirginMedia hub) at least now. Best security features in the sales target area.

  • Cracking product, little expensive

I have replaced a product that was all design and not a lot a functionality. This Synology has no design concept but a lot of features. The router is slightly on the large side for starters so be aware or this should you want to put on your mantle piece, but I chose to wall mount mine. Configuration is not a straight forward as plug and play, so read the instructions. By default the duel-band (2.4 / 5) are set to auto mode so you will broadcast the wifi under a single name and your device will determine which signal to pick up. This I found is not as clever as it may sound... I have a couple of B&O A9's which only pick-up 2.4 and neither could filter the 2.4 from the auto duel-band. The solution is quite simple though, since the Synology admin software does enable you to broadcast 2.4 and 5 independently (which I would recommend you doing). The admin software opens up a whole range of features which you will not see on many routers, but be aware that you playing with these if you have no idea what it is you're doing will upset your broadcast. The Synology user guides and online help are superb however. Another word of caution... I also have a Synology NAS on my network which was not recognised at first through the router (somewhat surprised). All the help files in the world could not resolve this, but Synology support did. A reset of the NAS was required. Fortunately the data on the NAS was not lost. I am impressed with the router, but it is a little expensive for a home user like me, since I do not need 90% of the features.

  • Excellent product with great range and software

It takes its own good time booting up after first switching on but set up is straightforward. The range of options and software is extensive. In order to get the best performance in threat prevention I inserted an SD card which increases the available memory. The number of attacks a home network sustains is staggering when you see how many attempts are made to breach your security. It’s range and ability to handle multiple devices simultaneously is impressive and seems able to stream movies from my NAS while performing other tasks without any apparent difficulty.
