I bought this Apple AirPort Extreme 802.11ac to complement the other one I use as my WiFi access point and router. Effectively I'm using this as an extender. I have the 2 linked by ethernet over powerline to avoid loss in speed -- Apple allows you to extend the network wirelessly but there is a significant drop in performance. It's an excellent piece of kit, rock-solid and I almost never have to reboot it -- compared to the Virgin Media Super Hub 3 that I was rebooting 1~2 times a week. I set the VM SH3 to Modem mode and let the AirPorts do all the work (so WiFi, Router, DHCP, etc.) and they do it admirably and without fuss. This is an "old" piece of kit (it was released in 2013) but still holds its own admirably compared to other WiFi routers and it gives me rock-solid WiFi with excellent performance. However I would still totally recommend it. They actually look rather nice too -- far less obtrusive than normal routers and sit there quietly in the background blending in with everything else. Very easy to setup and use with the AirPort Utility piece of software. Am delighted! Read full review

Still the best if you have various Apple gadgets. I've had an airport extreme for many years and after moving to a bigger home needed better wifi coverage upstairs. This second-hand AirPort Extreme was a bargain at under £50 and it installed in seconds. My wifi speed is now stable and super fast all over the house. Brilliant!

Maybe I was being a little naive thinking that by plugging this in I would get fabulous wifi in all my rooms (after all, that's why I bought it). In the end, it's just another wifi router. Looks nice but has one less port than my old one. Is it worth it? I would say not. Does it look good? Yes.

Can AirPort Base Stations transparently handoff from one base station to another? (For example, my main base station is in my office (AirPort Extreme Office), connected to the Comcast modem. If my iPhone is connected to this base station and I leave the office and go to the family room, where another base station is located, would the iPhone automatically handoff to the base station with the stronger signal? The short answer is yes! The only thing I can add is that it is unfortunate that Apple stopped producing such good routers ...

excellent for the second hand price.. I would not purchase it at full price as there are now much better wifi systems available in that price range or even cheaper.
