183 pages, all present & tightly bound. Glossy cream paper with loads of black and white drawings - life saving, physiology and anatomy, swimming strokes, water entry (diving and plunging), certificates, medals, techniques, etc., etc..
Fascinating insight into 1950s life.
This copy was evidently passed from one family member to another, one of whom was a P.C. Can’t decipher the christian name, but starts with a C. Surname is Causley. Cover has “C........Causley. P.c. 25.”
Flyleaf has “Alison Causley” in red biro, then “Alison Causley” and the address in pencil .
Very neat ink notes from C. Causley, shown in photos - page 154, page 151 re: updated exam prices, and three different competition cups for police to enter, The Police Baton, The Alington Cup - Women’s Police Force, West Riding Cup - Police Cadets; page 123 about using mouth to mouth instead of the Schafer method.
Can’t see any other notes anywhere. Remaining pages clean, unblemished, see photos. NO FOXING OR TANNING.
To be very picky, there is evidence of this little book having been on a shelf or bookcase, because the outside edges of the pages are a slightly darker colour than the page bodies, but for its age - 77 years old - it’s in excellent condition.
No turn-downs, tears, chips, nibbles, etc., to pages. End boards (linen effect covers) have very minor wear visible - 2-3mm rub to bottom left of spine, minor rubbing to top edge, 3/4” or c.2cm sun-shade line/ band, where very top of book has jutted above the adjacent book and has had sunlight hit it. A few insignificant marks to outer rear cover, general light shelf-grub.
