I bought a pair of these Genuine Kohler ignition coils for my Terramite T5C tractor's engine (CH20), and they worked perfectly. I originally purchased cheap aftermarket ones on eBay, and I had nothing but issues with the ground wiring not allowing the engine to start. It wasn't worth the hassle, and these Kohler ones work excellent.

The ads lists these coils as replacements for PN 24-584-45S, but they have different grounding properties. I spent some time trying to figure out why my CH20 engine would run on only one cylinder with one installed in conjunction with a factory one, so I ordered a second coil from you thinking my other original was bad. Then, it wouldn't start all with both new ones installed. I learned both ground each other when wired like designed by Kohler. I would not have bought if I knew. I returned and bought Kohler coils. Problem solved. My Terramite tractor was down for two weeks because of this junk.

I installed a pair of these on a Kohler CV20 two cylinder V twin on a mower because one of the OEM coil packs failed. MUCH better deal than a $75 OEM part! Easy to replace, I used a business card to get the clearance between the flywheel magnet and the coil. However, the mower wouldn't start. I disconnected the white wires to the grounding terminals on both coils, thinking there was a problem with the safety shut off circuit, and it ran great. The white wire from each coil join together and go to the various safety circuits. I then connected the white wires to both coils but disconnected the harness from the rest of the mower, and it didn't start. when I disconnected the white wire from ONE coil, it would run. So weird thing is, when you connect the coils together, they ground each other out and the mower shuts off, but that is not how it is supposed to work on my mower. So I left just one connected. When I shut the key off it grounds out only one coil now but the carb fuel shutoff turns off the mower almost as quickly.Read full review

If you're using these coils on a 1 cylinder engine they will work just fine, the kill wire grounding wire will work just fine. Using them in a 2 cylinder engine they are a big problem. These "aftermarket" coils have a different Resistance characteristics with respect to the Kill Wire grounding post. There is not enough resistance to work properly with the Kohler engine systems when using these for 2 cylinder engines. The coils virtually ground each other out and the engine won't start. However, removing the kill wire grounding wires from the coils and the engine will start and run just fine. But then you have to shut off the engine by choking it. On my 2 cylinder Kohler I ended up remove these coils, reinstalling the one good older coil, and buying another OEM coil. An expensive lesson in risking the purchase of aftermarket parts.Read full review

Physical dimension is OK and compatible with genuine Kohler. However, electronically is quite different. The kill pin has too low internal resistance. In a dual cylinder engine, if two of these coils are replaced together, the engine will not start because the kill pin resistance, when two coils are in parallel, is below the starting threshold and the engine thinks it is in the kill mode. So the engine will not start. Using one coil in single coil engine, or one of this coil together with a genuine Kohler coil is ok. Kohler coil has much higher internal resistance so the combined resistance is outside the kill mode and the engine will start. But it will not work if you have to replace both coils.
