The photos above are from the original programme, which has been sold, although the scans are scanned from the programme in colour.
The sets were interesting, especially the way that the columns moved on and off stage for the various scenes, which was extremely innovative.
This enabled the various hotel scenes to be interspersed with the rest of the production.
There was also an interesting scene when on Aschenbach travelled in a Gondola.
The beach scene was also interesting with the sea in the distance and the floor of the scene was covered in a wet like covering to give the impression of wet sand.
The orchestral playing by the Royal Opera House orchestra conducted by Richard Farnes, was excellent, along with the singing with Mark Padmore as Gustav von Aschenbach, Elizabeth McGorian as the Lady of the Pearls, Gerald Finley as the other parts, and superb dancing by Leo Dixon as Tadzio and Olly Bell as Jaschiu.
