Advert Description

Carmen Welsh National Opera Programme 2019 Autumn season. Has photos and relevant informed articles about the recent production which went on tour, and the music and history of the Bizet opera.

The set backdrop consisted of light brown and chocolate tones to a grid like factory setting for the chocolate factory, with metal cages in the front to differentiate the seperate parts of the set, which gave the appearance of a Spanish Cemetery.

The set remained the same throughout the whole performance.

A more interesting set than the recent set at the Royal Opera House which consisted of a series of boring steps.
The costumes were bland, with Carmen dressed as a backpacker which may not have been to everyone's taste.

The military uniforms seemed to be of the Spanish Civil War period.

The orchestral playing by the Welsh National Opera orchestra conducted by Tomas Hanus was excellent, along with the singing with Virginie Verrez as Carmen, Ross Ramgobin as Morales, Anita Watson as Micaela, Dimitri Pittas as Done Jose, Henry Waddington as Zuniga and Angela Simkiin as Mercedes.
