Advert Description

Luisa Miller, PDF copy of English National Opera programme London Coliseum, elegant and stylish programme for 2019/20 Winter season.

The photos above are from the original programme, which has been sold, although the scans are scanned from the programme in colour.

Has photos and relevant informed articles about the current production and the music and history of this Verdi Opera.

The set was minimalistic white and throughout it seemed that we were in a gigantic freezer.

There were slight geometrical patterns in hard edged style.

There were also children making writings in paint on either side of the stage, and also in the end death scene paint dripping down card backdrops.

The back of the scene moved forwards and backwards at times, with an octagonal style entrance in the middle.
There was also use of black stip like caging for parts of the stage in the second part.

There was interesting use of the ENO chorus.
The costumes were varied, with Wurm in dark black with comical costumes for others, and Rodulfo appeared in tuxedo for the final scene.

Different from his stirling tuxedo role in WNO's recent production of Rigolletto, a more successful role for him. This production has attracted controversy and criticism.

The orchestral playing by the English National Opera orchestra was excellent, conducted by Alexander Joel, along with the singing with Elizabeth Llewellyn as Luisa, Olafur Sigurdarson as MIller, David Junghoon Kim as Rodulfo, James Cresswell as Count Walter, Soloman Howard as Wurm, Christine Rice as Federica a Duchess.
