    A good solid camera.

I am retired so there isn't much money spare for my photography hobby. This EOS 40D is a step up from my old EOS20D, so I had accessories, lenses and battery grip already. Although modern cameras have twice the pixel count and other features, this camera is capable of producing landscape photographs up to A3 size, provided I do not have to crop too severely Consequently I have to rely on my own skill rather than letting the camera think for me. The EOS 40D is a solidly built machine. It is suitable for a novice but will exploit your growing skill level by allowing fully manual operation when you feel confident. This is a real bargain on which to learn the basics, when you have the cash to move up to a more modern machine your skill will match your new equipment. I have had loads of enjoyment with it, I cannot ask for more

    Cannon EOS 40D difficuties

I bought this camera as an upgrade to my EOS 100 Rebel. It took me awhile to workout the controls etc. One of the main reasons to go for the EOS 40D was because in the camera specification that it was Wi-Fi ready. On receipt I was surprised to find that in fact it was not Wi-Fi enabled or ready. I contacted to seller who said that the specification was supplied by EBAY and that the camera was not Wi-Fi ready or enabled. I decided to keep the camera however. I used the camera and took some landscape shots. I found that the blacks on the prints were distorted and the focus points actually appeared on one of the shots. It maybe that I am not fully conversant with this camera, but using the Auto setting should make it virtually fool proof but not in this case. Not for me I will used for part exchange for a later model with wifi.

  • Ultimate work horse at a fraction of its original retail cost

These were very expensive upon release (circa £1000 if I remember correctly) and despite being an older model it is very responsive and powerful with intuitive controls and, lets face it, other than the megapixel count (and maybe ISO) how different has DSLR photography got in 10 or so years? There's still a great range of amazing Canon lenses and accessories and if you can live without touchscreen, wifi, and all that jazz then this is a no-brainer. An absolute bargain, a joy to use, and built like a tank.

  • A big feature packed camera

The 40d has got to be one of the best second hand cameras on the market, with its quality feel host of features and tiny second hand price tag it's an ideal starter camera for somebody just getting started as well as a serious piece of kit for the more advanced photographer.

  • Just need a well build camera

In my view the Canon 10D is the best all round camera with heave hard shell but as one can see reviews on the 40D still out way the 50D and the rest are just toys that have more pixels to play with and if you not going to sell more than a 8x10 A4 then you dont need all those pixels just a good picture and you find the 1D mark 3 had the body and pixels like the 40D.
