I brought this for general use, vlogging plus using on my bycyle. I like it's ease of use and it's nice high quality HD images when used outdoors, however the sound quality from the built in mic is just appaling! Even when used with the skeleton case which I had to buy seperately. Fortunately the Hero 2 has an external mic socket so the sound quality is not such an issue if used with an external mic, however you will have to buy the skeleton case in order to gain access to the socket as the waterproof case covers up all the sockets. Indoor filming can be pretty grainy and low quality. For V-logging, it's OK if 'locked off' on a tripod, but walking around with it hand-held, the semi-fish-eye lens tends to make some of my audience feel a bit woosy and seasick, so it's not an ideal vlogging camera. Dislikes include having to buy seperately an adaptor just to get it to fit onto a standard tripod. I also don't like the way the lens can steam up if conditions are humid - the battery seems to warm up after about 20-30 mins and then the inside of the casing can steam up around the lens. Gopro have brought out an over-priced silica gel product (disposable) to tackle the issue, so they are clearly aware of this flaw. For the bike (I do downhill), it's ideal as a helmet cam (visuals only - the sound is awful). I haven't tried the chest strap because at an extra £40 quid (once you've paid for postage too), I don't think it'll be worth it. To me this camera system seems to be all about the marketing of aftersales products and making you need to buy the extra fittings and attachments. To get the camera doing the fairly basic things I wanted it to do, I've ended up spending over £100 more on extras such as tripod adaptors, skeleton housing, polarising filter (which was useless), Class 10 SD card, and an external microphone. Also, if the main camera ever breaks, you'll probably feel obliged to buy another one simply because you've already invested into all those expensive extra fixtures and fittings. It's quite a clever marketing ploy really, if you think about it. Over all it's not a bad camera, it's versatile, easy to use and creates some interesting and amazing fun images, but it really is too expensive for what it is considering all the extras you are hijacked into buying. Behind it there seems to be a shrewed marketing scheme in action designed to part you with as much additional cash as possible, and I do feel a tiny bit conned by it. Would I still have brought a Hero2 knowing all these things before my purchase? - Possibly, but I would have taken a much closer and harder look at some of the other similar-type cameras out there on the market first.Read full review
This is a superb camera for shooting any kind of radica sports, outdoor action, etc. The looks are the worst part of it: a not so friendly shape gives a lot of trouble when going out for mountain biking in the middle of trees, but along with not having a screen nor an optical viewfinder these are the only troubles I can figure out. Video quality is superb, audio quality has no match amongst action cameras in the market, accessories are great, with great quality and well, I simply love it and I wouldn't chose any other action camera at the moment. The top end version is the one to have, since you can have different fields of vision and a great 120 frames per second mode, which although hasn't got HD resolution, gives you the chance to shot great slow-motion footage. As I said, it is not perfect, but for the money, you can shot professional-like videos, so there's absolutely nothing to complain about Go-Pro Hero2 !Read full review
This is a great HD camera - but do note the name "Outdoor" edition - take it inside and the grain appears very quickly. However, picture quality is excellent, sound surprisingly good, and there's a PAL option to get pictures at 25fps. The menu access is fiddly, and any angle of view other than 'Narrow' gives you terrifying distortion on verticals. But for the price, a fabulous bit of kit, with 1080 pictures to die for!
Bought as a gift, so not used extensively, only to test. Works well, glad I bought this brand.
