I bought this camera because of the 18x optical zoom and the 'Kreuznach' lens. I'm not an expert I used to have a Kodak with the same brand lenses and was very happy with it. I wanted a compact camera with outstanding optical zoom and not too much fancy cr.p noone ever uses anyway but some freedom and manual options for expressing my creativity. Then I found this one for a (clearly suspicious) ridiculously low price. I like the price a lot. I like picture quality in general: the first camera I've ever owned that took GOOD pictures of the moon. I like the video recording - quality impressed me also there is a separate button for recording press any time and record, brilliant. I like the charger - it includes the USB cable, sensational. I like the 18x optical zoom and 12MP resolution. I dislike the cheap material, casing, buttons. I hate the fact the disc that choses between the different modes is not working properly already. I did not abuse the camera. I dislike there is no panoramic picture taking mode. I dislike the modes such as manual/programmed/shutter etc always save the last setting, every time you want to use one you start from a combination of settings you gambled out somehow for the previous situation - the bird flies away by the time you brain out what else you changed last time!!! The menu is big. Not complicated, but big. And again, you are dropped back to the 'smart mode', the easy one with its own mind, again no creative photos unless you have hours to set up. I dislike the flash control and then the battery life. I dislike the difficult handling of the menu. You have to focus a lot on the camera instead of the picture. Unless you go with the 'smart mode' which is not bad otherwise, but then what for all the manual settings... I don't know how it compares to other current cameras however I would still chose my old 6MP Kodak 10x optical Dual lens camera because of quicker handling and more exciting pictures. Only if they would be still making it.Read full review
bought this after reading a lot of positive reviews on the web. mine is a factory refurbished one and I paid only £63 for it. it records movies pretty good, but the picture quality is very bad specially in low light. images are powdery and not sharp at all. even in daylight it struggles to focus correctly and produce a sharp image. on other reviews everyone was talking about the zoom quality. personally I don't use zoom a lot but having a wide angle lens is useful when taking group photos in small rooms so that's one plus for this camera but let down by image quality in low light and a very weak flash, the zoom control is electronic and slow, it's single speed so you can't control the speed which you can zoom in/out. pros: good battery life, mpeg movie recording, ability to pause and continue a movie without breaking it to multiple files, wide angle lens, big LCD screen. cons: very bad quality images in low light and even sometimes in daylight. the automatic setting is useless and doesn't produce a decent quality image. too many useless settings which complicates the usage. under powered flash which can't light up more than 2.5m meters, none standard charge and USB cable (you better keep your cable safe as it's not standard and you can't buy one from any old shop) would I recommend it to a friend? NO, it produces too many bad photos in a session and you must get lucky to get a few decent photos out of it. I don't like leaving things to chance.Read full review
I was shocked at the picture quality and the power of the zoom. I have always had a TZ Lumix camera, but the picture quality of this seems better to me. Great size, and some cool features. Video is good too. A++++

The reason for such good ratings is based on other similar cameras by other manufacturers. For a compact camera it has excellent feature considering this was bought new at ~£65. I'd been looking for a camera with full manual controls for a while as I previously had a compact (also a Samsung) which had that option but its lens got broken a year ago. This camera has an excellent system for choosing the aperture and shutter speeds in this mode taking a fraction of the time as on some other manufacturers models, though it could have been easier still. The 18x optical zoom is market leading with many other manufacturers playing catch up. The pictures are good quality with a high quality lense (Schneider Kreuznach) though if you want even better I'd suggest the WB700 with 14MP rather than 12MP. The Smart mode allows for quick capture of pictures with as little work as possible on your part. It works well and is useful if you don't have the time to adjust a gazillion settings. There are also Scene, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, Program and Dual modes these allow for varying degrees of control with the scene mode allowing you to just choose the best fitting scenario and the camera adjusts the settings accordingly. The Dual mode is rather pointless as you get Dual image stabilisation on the other modes anyway - as long as you set them to. The only let down as far as pictures go down is the lack of panoramic ability so you can't take any of these which would be nice. The video mode does what it says on the tin, and works well and allows zooming in and out during recording without loss of sound as happens in some other models. There is also a dedicated record button to get you recording in minimal time. The only let down here is the lack of HD recording it only supports 640x480p. There are a host of other features such as manual focus (I however haven't managed to get this to work very well as yet), blink shutter, smile shutter, black and white, sepia... the list goes on. These just add to the possibilities of artistic photos. The battery life is good depending on what you do, if you are zooming in and out all the time and using the flash this will reduce the number of photos you can take considerably as much as half in my experience, although a good 50-80 could still be taken even with the flash and constant zooming adjustments. A second battery can easily be bought for as little as £8 (I got an official Samsung battery for this price).Read full review
Wanted a good camera, with a zoom, as I wasn't that happy with my phone camera. So far very pleased with it. It does tons of things but I've being using it on auto focus that that seems to cope with all views and lighting.
