Being an avid fan of "The Boys" (that's Laurel and Hardy of course), and a member of the "Sons of the Desert" group, this movie has always been very special to me. But I didn't buy this DVD for myself; rather, I bought it for a young Danish girl and her family - the girl spent a month with us in the summer of 2006, and during that time we took her to the 15th International "Sons of the Desert" convention in Augusta, Georgia. Our young Danish friend did not really know of Laurel and Hardy (though she had heard of them as Gog og Gokke in Denmark!), so the week we spent in Augusta and at the convention really immersed her into that culture. However, she did not watch the movie "Sons of the Desert" while there, so after she returned home, I searched and located a DVD, capable of being played in Denmark, and sent it to her so she and her family could enjoy Laurel and Hardy. This movie is one of the best examples of Laurel and Hardy in their prime. The back story is developed beautifully, and the old adage about lies coming back to haunt you is clearly demonstrated. There are hilarious scenes and dialogue, and the memorable "Honolulu Baby" is sung and featured, as is Charley Chase. If you're looking for a great Laurel and Hardy film, get this one! (oh - you can also look for the L & H silents "Two Tars", "Big Business", and "The Second Hundred Years", and the talkies "Brats", "Busy Bodies", 'Helpmates", "The Music Box", "Way Out West", and "Hog Wild" if you want my opinion...) This purchase was also sort of a bribe; the next international Laurel and Hardy convention will be in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in July, 2008, and we're hoping that the Danish girl's parents like the movie so much that they'll let her attend the Amsterdam convention with us (again) when we travel to Europe in 2008!
