Short of a 12 mini, (for which you need a mortgage!), this is one of the smallest ‘compacts’ in the iPhone range that’s reasonably up to date in tech terms and is very affordable. For me, the additional features of the SE2 (same size but with a later processor and a couple of camera features) wasn’t worth the additional cost. This is a great value, mid rage iphone.

This is the last of the Touch ID phones, X onwards uses Face ID which many will say is better but I like to be able to unlock with a fingerprint. By the time they got to the 8 all of the kinks and wrinkles had been ironed out and the 8 represents the pinnacle of that generation of Apple products. This 256 Gb model has bags of space to hold my entire 80 Gb music collection and it is compatible with FLAC so no need to have different versions and quality levels. Having owned it for a month I have zero regrets and would buy the same phone today. One day I might upgrade to the X series but will wait till it is at least three or four generations into the design.

This iPhone 8 is a perfect step up from my old iPhone 5. A bigger screen and the phone feels a lot more powerful. The Home Screen is similar to the old phone but work a lot quicker. Good camera.
