Lumina 550
These phones can be picked up cheap here on Ebay, so with that in mind alone for a smart phone, it can represent great value for money. I purchased two of these at a shade under £40 each, one was to drag a friend kicking and screaming into the 21st century, and the other as a spare phone to replace my trusty old Nokia 6310i which had been sitting in a drawer for years. For the shear amount of functions available, it's a steal at this price, but with Windows 10, you'll either love it or hate it. W10 throws up its own challenges, but the phone itself gives you further challenges I felt because setting simple things, e.g, ringtones for individual contacts in your phone is a bit of a chore until you get used to how to do it. Another chew was setting the phone to make a sound when you receive a text or email was a bit 'all round the houses' to set up, but it can be done with a bit of patience if not gnashing of teeth! Fortunately there's a lot of help on the internet which is where I spent quite a bit of time in my first days of ownership. Its is quite a large phone though, and if like me, you want to protect it with a cover of some description, this will further increases its dimensions. I would definately suggest a cover or case though, if for nothing else to keep the phone's own back cover from unclipping itself as it has a tendency to do on occasion, and if you happen to drop it, I imagine it could possibly crack quite easily too. I further protected the screens on mine with toughened glass protectors, so hopefully the two I bought are now bomb-proof! In summing up, it's no iPhone, but at this kind of price you can't really complain.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Decent size and performance.
The phone worked nicely, straight from the box. With downloaded maps it navigated in places where a friend's iphone navigation cut out. Several Microsoft updates spoiled the phone and mapping functionality. Another update stabilised it, but the mapping has been poor since (about six months). Automatic update can be switched off, however. Battery life is still good after a year of use. Surfs well over wifi, bluetooth works well, and the phone handles calls and texts as needed. It can't access apps on Google Play Store, and Microsoft Store doesn't offer all of them. Good in Size, Fast and Efficient.

Phone great software not so
Had to reinstall windows 3 times to get the phone going. Hell with a slow internet connection. Once got past this it has been plane sailing. Keeping what I use on my start screen and removing what I did not use was easy. Microsoft Lumia 550 Smartphone
I have had several Windows Phones in the past and have found them to be a solid and reliable choice. Although l was running the much higher spec Lumia 925, l needed a phone with a larger screen and also running Windows Phone 10. Although the going rate for a 550 was about £60, l got this as a PAYG upgrade for £20. A bargain! Despite having a plastic case, the 550 felt solid and a quality product. Surprisingly l preferred the LCD screen to the AMOLED 925 screen. Colours were bright, vivid, and very clear. Although familiar in use, Windows 10 was a lot different from the Windows 8.1 on the 925. It was easy to use, the camera quality good, and the call clarity excellent. However, after having used the 550 for a while, it became clear that Microsoft had compromised just a little bit too much on the processor. The phone was slow to boot up. Also programmes were slow to load. Applications occasionally stuttered in use, and also could suddenly revert back to the main screen. Superb value for money!
I have bought a number of phones over the past few years. I never tie myself into a contract and every phone I have ever bought has been sim free. I needed to get a decent phone quickly. I did not want to spend ludicrous amounts of money on a top of the range item but still needed to be able to do all the essential things demanded of a modern mobile phone. The Microsoft Lumia 550 fitted the bill nicely. I had been badly let down by some of the cheaper obscure Chinese phones and thought this time I might step up a notch with a name I recognised. I'm glad to say it does the job perfectly and even having seen a few reviews about this phone I anticipated some minor issues, so far there haven't been any! It does everything i want. Websurfing, emails, functional no fuss camera. All for a price less than i have paid for some inferior unbranded phones. Windows 10 takes some getting used to if you have been only experienced Android but you very quickly get the hang of it.
