An entry level dslr from Canon, no longer in production but can be found on ebay for as little as £30 for a working example. Expect to pay more for a clean, barely used lot. Easy to use and with good image quality you get all the modes and functions any budding photographer will need for the time being. Lenses to suit vary widely in price but buy the best you can afford for future use. I would suggest the older ef mount 28-80 or 28/35-105 mark 1/2 lenses rather than the flimsy 18-55 kit lens this camera originally came with. If you can really push the boat out a good copy of the 17-85 is USM Lens will cover all your needs for a wide angle to short telephoto lens. Add in a 75-300 zoom from either canon or tamron and you'll have a neat kit that'll take you anywhere. In all I would highly recommend the Canon EOS 300d as a first step in the digital SLR market. It'll put you in good stead for the inevitable upgrade to a double digit rather than triple digit eos series dslr with the bonus of resale values which are remaining steady and solid.
