After our original Flymo gave in after 44 years of regular use we decided to replace with another flymo of similar size and spec. It doesn't look like this new one will last 44 years as the build quality has slipped a little but it is lighter so that's a plus. It hovers reasonably well (not as good as the old one ?) and cuts the lawn with very little effort from me, which is what we expected after owning one previously. Easier to use than the grass collection type as you are only handling the weight of the Flymo.

Purchased to use while my ride on mower is broken. This was £20 cheaper than buying direct from Flymo. If your lawn is uneven like mine it will not work very well as it doesnot have enough "lift" to clear the ground. The air cleaner supplying cool air to the electric motor clogs up very quickly. On areas of my lawn that are nice and level it works quite well.

I made this reluctant purchase because my earlier Flymo 300 had the bad grace to pack up, and I only bought it in 1993! The 'upgrade' to the 400 was an attempt to cover more ground with the same reliable package, and in fact the 400 very closely resembles it's older sibling, even to the extent that the the height adjusting rings, and central securing bolt are identical. With nearly twice the power and a 33% wider track I was expecting an easy ride, but I am afraid I have been disappointed. It seems much harder to push, and although it will float (just) on a smooth surface, the fan doesn't seem to quite do the business as it should. Could it be just this one? I don't know, but there's nothing I can do to find out. The lead supplied is far too short, but fortunately I still have the old one. The plastic cowl is proportionally much wider than the blade than the 300 so quite difficult to guess the mowing line. Finally, the method of securing the handle in an upright or horizontal position has changed. Now you have to bend down and squeeze against a significant spring pressure, rather than simply lifting the handle and dropping into a recess. So I am afraid, Flymo, that your value engineering on this one does not impress me. I would have preferred to replace the non-replaceable brushes in the old one. The only reason I give this a 4, not 3 is that it is a case of beggars cannot be choosers: it is an award for making this pattern of mower which is now very rare. Either they have grass boxes on top, or they are so heavy, you can't carry them in one hand, and certainly not hang on a hook in the shed. And of course the last one was reliable. Well, I suppose it will keep me in trim as I'll probably be 80 by the time this one dies........Read full review
we have used Flymo products for many years, and always found them good value; and very serviceable. our last mower lasted for 17 years. the Turbo 400 is a good powerful machine, and we find it great, the larger cut reduces mowing time. we are sure the Turbo will give many years of use, great product, and value for money. jhb.

This is a great mower for small yards. Easy to start and does a good job on cutting the lawn. Just need to be mindful that you don't mow over the cable - otherwise a great lawn mower.
