It sounds great whether plugged in or unpluggedthis guitar was made in december according to its custom shop serial number - qlz009a - and the specifcation includes a solid cedar top, mahogany back and sides, mahogany neck and an ebony fingerboard and bridgealthough the cpx guitars are a smaller "mini-jumbo" size, they feature a full depth body for superior tone and volume when played unpluggedmy particular guitar has been played and does bear some scars as a result - but there are no cracks or other structural damage, just cosmeticthis is a professional grade guitar, not to be compared to lesser instrumentson the subject of the top - cedar is a lighter and more responsive tonewood, giving the guitar better acoustic volume and projectionthe cpx-15 comes from yamaha's "custom shop" in japan, where each guitar is handmade by a single luthierthe built-in preamp and pickup provide lots of sound control from the guitar - and you can blend an on-board condenser mic with a piezof you're familiar with the cpx15 series, then you probably expect a guitar made in korea or taiwani'm pretty sure that the electronics were subcontracted to lr baggsthe tuners are yamaha stamped, made in japan and probably gotohbut i've never been able to confirm this for certain - most of the electronics on yamaha guitars are made in house to a high qualitycombine that with mahogany back and sides, and you have a wonderfully warm sound, not to mention beauty
