On the subject of the top - cedar is a lighter and more responsive tonewood, giving the guitar better acoustic volume and projectionthis guitar was made in december according to its custom shop serial number - qlz009a - and the specifcation includes a solid cedar top, mahogany back and sides, mahogany neck and an ebony fingerboard and bridgecombine that with mahogany back and sides, and you have a wonderfully warm sound, not to mention beautythe built-in preamp and pickup provide lots of sound control from the guitar - and you can blend an on-board condenser mic with a piezoi'm pretty sure that the electronics were subcontracted to lr baggsthis is a professional grade guitar, not to be compared to lesser instrumentsbut i've never been able to confirm this for certain - most of the electronics on yamaha guitars are made in house to a high qualityit sounds great whether plugged in or unpluggedalthough the cpx guitars are a smaller "mini-jumbo" size, they feature a full depth body for superior tone and volume when played unpluggedmy particular guitar has been played and does bear some scars as a result - but there are no cracks or other structural damage, just cosmeticf you're familiar with the cpx15 series, then you probably expect a guitar made in korea or taiwanthe cpx-15 comes from yamaha's "custom shop" in japan, where each guitar is handmade by a single luthierthe tuners are yamaha stamped, made in japan and probably gotoh
