I have two bantam red dorking hens availablethe dorking is a rare british breed and i believe the red dorking bantam is particularly rarethey’re about 18 months oldi was hoping to be able to breed a flock but my health doesn’t permit that at this timeit would be really great if these two ladies could go to someone interested in breeding them but they’d also be just as happy just the two of them or in a backyard flockunfortunately due to my health limitations i’m having to rehome some of my chickens

Silver grey dorking hens, hatched in an incubator earlier this yearit is believed that the dorking as a breed originated in italy during the reign of julius caesarthe birds are named after the market town of dorking in surrey which in the 19th century became one of the main centres of productionthe dorking is a rare breed, they are very docile birds and perfect free rangers, loving to forage, they are really friendly and follow me around the fieldssome of my other hens give up once one or two eggs have hatched and the other eggs get colddoris is as bold as brass and will march across the field to where the sheep are snoozing under the beech tree and strut through them like she owns the fielddorkings are very docile, very tame, they never peck at me when collecting eggs or moving them to a different nest box like some of my other hens dodillon and the gang follow bravely on but tend to skirt around the sheep and meet up with her on the other side of the treehave 3 availablethey have always been prized for their white flesh and eating qualities more than their medium size white eggsthey are not pure but do have characteristic markings and '5 toes' - extra hind clawthey make excellent broody hens, waiting until all the eggs have hatched before leaving themthey were introduced to great britain and first appeared in the first british poultry show inthey are large foraging birds that require space as they are very activethey are really friendly, have real characters and follow me around looking for titbitsthe cockerel is very impressive, both cocks and hens have lovely natures and they make excellent show birdsthe main distinctive feature is having five claws (as opposed to the normal four that other breeds have)

One egg was different - as it was laid by one of our ex-battery hens - and dillon our silver grey dorking cockerel was the dad - so he is the yellow one and is bigger than the otherswe hatched some of daisy's eggs in an incubator in the spring3 cockerels should be pure silver grey dorkings but we found out from the last hatching from the rbst that they are not totally pure as one of them has yellow legs, but they are really beautifulunfortunately they are all cockerels and we can only sensibly keep one, so the rest are for sale

These were hatched from eggs which came from victoria roberts who is the dorking club secretary and has some of the best strains in the countrythe price for these is £125 per pair, i am not selling hens separatelythis is a very rare heritage breed and are very docile and good temperedusually i would take these birds to the national rare breed shows in york and telford but this year these events have been cancelled so it is a rare chance to get a pair which will be ready to breed from next springi have 3 pairs for sale, once they are gone that will be it until next springthis is an opportunity to get hold of a growing pair of white dorkings that i hatched out mid junei don't want any time wasters or any haggling on price because these are very good birds and have all the correct tributes of this breed including the five toes and deep plumage
