I had 42 japanese quails hatch out of 47eggs on 12th novthey must go to homes in 2s or more as quails like to live together & they live better with more companythe quails are unsexed but they can be sexed in warmer weather at 6-8weeks old but in this weather sexing has been happening at weeks old, males will crow & foam from their bits & females don’tthey will be ready to go to new homes from friday 20th november when they are just over 1week oldnow 34 left,8 go to a new home nxt wkthey also love eating iceberg lettuce as a treat once or twice a day which i jstart offering from 4weeks oldthey are eating chick crumb which they will eat till 6weeks old but from 4weeks old they will need chicken mixed corn & layers pellets mixed in with the corn then at 6weeks old the crumb can stop being given to them & they will then just eat the mixed corn & pelletswhen they move outside they can have hay & sawdust in their hutchthey also love a sand bath in just normal children’s playsandcollection westbury wiltshirethey will need a heat lamp or heat plate brooder till aged 4weeks old,from 4weeks old they will need to live at room temperature till 6 or 7weeks old then they can move outside into a hutchthe females in warm weather normally start to lay at 8-10weeks old but in this weather they may not lay till weeks old,girls will lay egg with or without a male with them & eggs won’t hatch unless you incubate themthey drink water from a jam jar lid or any lid or saucer,if you use something bigger you will need to put stones in the bottom till they are 3weeks old as they can fall in head first & drownthey will need oyster shell grit from 6weeks old in a separate bowl or scattered across their run floor if you have a run,this helps them digest their food easily & helps the females lay normal hard eggs when they start to laythey will start to fly a little from 1 & half - 2weeks old

Here we have the last of our japanese quails that we hatched out with 74 others on aug 25ththese quails are females £10each/ 7 for £60/ male £3 on his own or male will go free with all 7 femalesthey also have oyster shell grit scattered over the coop ground so they can dig about it & eat, this helps the quails grind up & digest their food properly & helps their bones,also help the females lay nice normal eggsthey are currently living indoors at room temperature but they will be fine to go start outside when they live as we have 6 from the same hatch that we are keeping that we have just put outside at 8weeks old & they are doing just fineour breeding adults live outside in a big coop & are fed organic mixed corn/organic layers pellets & fresh salad & vegetables, they also love to eat meal worms & garden wormswe only have these 7 females & 1 male left, they are 9weeks old 4 have already laid their first few eggs at 8weeks oldthese 8 here that are in need of their forever home have eaten chick starter crumb from 24hrs old till 6weeks old since then they have been eating the organic food, but their food doesn’t have to be organic it can be just normal
