This is one of a collection of high-grade precision-tuned chimes that i'm selling off at this timei called that sub-project 'wind chimes in the wild', and took chimes out into wild places (usually high up in the teign gorge) and made long recordings of them - both single sets and various combinations - in spacious natural soundscapesmade by woodstock chimes in the usa, this is a high-grade precision-tuned set, tuned to a what is described as an ancient greek scale - though i recognise it as being similar if not identical to the scale widely used in japanese koto musicthese are seriously musical! size for size, woodstock chimes are physically relatively light, being relatively thin-walled, and their tone has a delightful light and airy quality, with a pleasant shimmer of harmonics - though some people rather ignorantly dismiss the tone as 'tinny' (i most certainly don't!)it has an intriguingly melancholic sound - and if put together with chimes tuned to the pentatonic scale, the very beautiful effect can be one of a really intense sadnessbut since i came to the end of that project the chimes are all redundant, as i can't use any of them for their normal purpose in my sort of abode!:-) personal collection only, full payment in cash, non-negotiabledo come and listen before deciding whether to buy! read morei purchased them at considerable expense, not to hang up at my abode but for me to carry out a really quite thrilling sub-project of my making recordings of natural soundscapesthe interactions of the different scales produced beautiful to hair-raisingly other-worldly musical effects

Davis blanchard wind chimes now have a certain rarity / collectors value, because the business abruptly disappeared in , and these are particularly unusual chimes to start withlike the better-known woodstock chimes the tone has a light and airy sound with a beautiful shimmer of harmonics, but here there is something not just 'light' but bright and indeed steely about the soundi have four redundant davis blanchard chimes for sale, each having 8 tubes, and they all look almost identical to each otherthat makes them decidedly heavy for their size, and their sound has a tone unlike anything i've heard from other wind chimesthe effect with this sonority is a quite new face to the blues sound! chimes like these are best used outdoors because they can be quite loud, and the brilliance of their tone could be a bit fatiguing to listen to at close quarters for long periodsthat adds to the impression of brightness of their sounda mysterious and rugged sound -- the blues -- yes, a blues motive on a chunky wind chimein terms of the scale each chime is tuned to, in their different ways they each have an invigorating and probably unique sound for a wind chime: -- pluto -- minor chord including minor major seventh chord - a bright 'visionary' effect -- twilight -- also includes a minor major seventh chord, but sounds more mellow, autumnal and rather plaintive (in a lovely sort of way) -- debussy bells -- the whole-tone scale, arranged in a way that makes the sound fascinatingly complex, with a dissonant aspect caused by a 'false note' (an overtone effect)i love it, but some would detest such an invigorating sound! also, they are not only tuned to 'just' (rather than equal temperament) intonation, but have an overall pitch tuning to a448 instead of the usual a440personal collection, full payment in cash - non-negotiablecome and listen before deciding whether to buy! read morethey're made of galvanized steel instead of the normal aluminium
