buff orpingtons are lovely curious and friendly birdswe have 3 large fowl buff orpington hens hatched 27th april for sale to be sold as a trio, £ each)they are very popular as breeding chickens due to their broody tendencies we do not show our chickens but our buyers have with some successchickens hatched and raised by broody hens are easier to integrate with an existing flock as they are taught from hatch how flock dynamics work and how to navigate the pecking order they are heavy feathered so are very cold tolerant and unlike hybrid egg layers will continue laying through the colder winter months, only stopping in late autumn for their short annual moult the most notable success was one of our cockerels (caesar) winning a 1st at the royal norfolk show indue to their mild nature that are frequently chosen as family pets, but if you are interested in these hens as livestock they are great dual purpose bird and normally lay around 200 eggs per year all of our orpingtons are hatched using broody hens

We have 10 beautiful buff orpington hens available for salewe are not a large commercial breeder and all of our chickens have hands on contact with us every daychickens hatched by broody hens are normally easier to introduce into existing hen groups than hens hatched in an incubatorif you are a new chicken keeper check out our series "chicken keeping for beginners" we are registered as a business partnership as we do breed some extra hens to sell however we only sell a few hens each year just to cover the food bills and running costs for the chickensthey do have broody tendencies and are excellent mothers if you choose to hatch some fertilised eggsthey have been free ranged in our grassed field and love grazing and exploringorpingtons are large, heavily feathered and of course, friendly birdsthe minimum quantity for each sale will be 2 as hens are flock animals and do not thrive in isolationthis is because their brood hen teaches the chicks about flock dynamics and they understand their place in the pecking order very early onall of our young hens are hatched on our smallholding using our small group of broody henswe have an active youtube channel english country life (link in our contact details) with lots of tutorial videos for smallholders including many chicken keeping videosunlike egg laying breeds they continue laying eggs all year round (most breeds go off lay during winter) only stopping laying when they are either brooding or moultingall of our hens have been handfed treats since being chicks so are used to human contact
