Oxfam shop hexham a delightful brass compound microscope made by j t slugg of manchester in the 19th centurythe lens is in excellent condition with only very small (approximately 1 mm) chips on the very edge next to the brass mountingthe lens is mounted in a brass ring attached to an arm on the stand, enabling the lens to be moved in three dimensionsapproximately 200 mm tallthe microscope is accompanied by a letter dated 5th june to the owner explaining that the rack and pinion had been renovated but it had not been possible to supply a new objectivesee oxfam website for delivery information read morethis letter, and the envelope in which it was posted, is includedit has rack and pinion focussing, a mechanical stage, plano-convex mirror and one ocular and one objective, all on a y-shaped basein addition, there is a bulls-eye lens mounted on a stand with heavy basethe microscope was described as "very old"the case is in good condition, it has a lock but there is no keythere is a further lens, also mounted in brass, approximately 13 mm diameter of unknown purposethe objective comes in what appears to be the original cardboard tube
