Oxfam shop hexham a delightful brass compound microscope made by j t slugg of manchester in the 19th centurythe lens is in excellent condition with only very small (approximately 1 mm) chips on the very edge next to the brass mountingthe lens is mounted in a brass ring attached to an arm on the stand, enabling the lens to be moved in three dimensionsthere is a further lens, also mounted in brass, approximately 13 mm diameter of unknown purposein addition, there is a bulls-eye lens mounted on a stand with heavy basethis letter, and the envelope in which it was posted, is includedthe microscope was described as "very old"the microscope is accompanied by a letter dated 5th june to the owner explaining that the rack and pinion had been renovated but it had not been possible to supply a new objectiveit has rack and pinion focussing, a mechanical stage, plano-convex mirror and one ocular and one objective, all on a y-shaped basethe objective comes in what appears to be the original cardboard tubesee oxfam website for delivery information read moreapproximately 200 mm tallthe case is in good condition, it has a lock but there is no key
