indian runners are lovely ducks and will lay lovely big eggs for youi will have indian runner ducklings available on 20th june, they will be a few days old and require a heat lamp, experience ownwers only please as they can be very messy and some people just don’t realise this and then end up rehoming at a later date, so please do your homework first, they are near enough fully grown at 8 weeks so don’t stay cute and fluffy for long, they need to be put away each evening before dark to protect them from foxes and other predators once they are adult size, until then they need to be kept under a heat lamp to keep warm and kept indoors, they will be fed on none medicated chick crumb with added brewers yeast for extra niacin as they grow, i feed fancy feed chick crumb with extra brewers yeast, they should not be allowed to run on slippery surfaces as this can cause leg issues and splayed legs, grass towels and carpet or any rubber surfacesplease message me if you need more information elaine x read morea plastic paint roller tub is very good for young ducklings as it has a slope they can walk out of, they need food and water down all the time when growing and need to have plenty of exercise preferably on grass and away from dogs, they cannot be left in the garden by themselves as cats crows magpies will have them, so only supervised exercisethey can’t have a pond at this age they will drown, they are incubator raised so don’t have the natural oils they get to stay afloat from their mother

The indian runner, like most breeds of domestic duck, is a development of the wild mallardhave 4 ducks available - and one drake indian runners were imported into europe and attracted attention because of their tall, upright bodies and their incredible reputation for egg-layingi have read that ducklings shouldn’t be allowed to swim until they have their feathers – but as long as they are warm and can get dry quickly – and the water is very shallow – i have never had a problem with tiny ducklings having a swim! when they get older and go in a proper pond, they discover that they can swim underwater and they get so excited splashing from one end of the pool to the other, wonderful to watchthe most wonderful thing about ducklings is the first time they find they can swim in their water bowlducklings take 28 days to hatch so i leave mother duck to this taskthese ducks were hatched in spring by mother duckthey had been found in the east indies, from where they get their present name, but were referred to as 'penguin ducks' by dutch explorers and some of the early importershave mum and dadits evolution was probably determined more by human influence than natural selection over the hundreds of years they have been in the islands of indonesia
