All of our orpingtons are hatched using broody henswe have 3 large fowl buff orpington hens hatched 27th april for sale to be sold as a trio, £ each)chickens hatched and raised by broody hens are easier to integrate with an existing flock as they are taught from hatch how flock dynamics work and how to navigate the pecking orderdue to their mild nature that are frequently chosen as family pets, but if you are interested in these hens as livestock they are great dual purpose bird and normally lay around 200 eggs per yearthey are very popular as breeding chickens due to their broody tendencies we do not show our chickens but our buyers have with some success the most notable success was one of our cockerels (caesar) winning a 1st at the royal norfolk show in buff orpingtons are lovely curious and friendly birds they are heavy feathered so are very cold tolerant and unlike hybrid egg layers will continue laying through the colder winter months, only stopping in late autumn for their short annual moult
