antique victorian/edwardian purdonium (coal box), mahogany, approxoriginal ornate brass handles and plates, one each side, one on the front(if these cannot be properly restored, one option would be to remove the gallery completely, and maybe put a glass top on the boxapart from that, it appears to be in good, original conditionthis is why i have put “(a/f)” (or as found) in the titleit is quite heavy – kgjust about square, with a tilting-out front door, and a metal liner inside – the metal liner has handles to lift it out for cleaning / re-loadingthe ‘floor’ has reinforcing blocks underneath, for extra strength (see last photo)condition it has (or had) a pillared gallery around 3 sides of the top – unfortunately, 1 side and the back (still joined) have come off, and several of the baluster-shaped pillars are missing (see 2nd photo)i’m pretty certain it’s mahogany, but i’m not knowledgeable about woods51x35x34 cm (a/f) here is a general description, but please refer to the photographs

antique victorian solid cast brass lions head door knocker original patina large heavyvery heavy and a beautiful rare example with a friendly face rather than a frightening one ! measures about 14cm wide, 21cm in length including the knocker and projects about 5cm outwards reclaimed from a victorian house in liverpoolthere are 2 fixing bolts and a knockeri am not sure if knocker is original as it needs to be stripped of paintthere is a slight copper hue to the metal which i assume is due to the high copper content of the alloy
