It scans 35mm slides 16 at one time. I had another G4050 scanner which was about 19 years old, and sometimes it, stopped working halfway through scanning 16 slides, it is good to have a new one which finishes all 16 slides. With the advancement of photographic technology in recent years, I don't think scanners that will scan slides are made anymore?

I've used it to scan flatbed pages but also various slides and negatives. This is where it truly shines! Great capture and colour reproduction. Best of all works out of the box with Windows 10

Replacing a broken G4010, that worked perfectly for 14 years, see no reason why this upgrade would not continue to serve in the same manner!

I was looking for a negative scanner to scan my fathers collection of negatives taken with a Kodak Box Brownie, a Vest pocket Kodak and various other cameras of the 1920s to the 1990s. The HP ScanJet G4050 Flatbed Scanner was the only one I could find that would accommodate the different negative sizes with a selection of negative holders which secure the negatives whilst being scanned. This scanner, though not new, is still supported by Hewlett-Packard with downloadable software for it, compatible with Windows 7. The software allows for very high resolution scanning, I use 600dpi and it is capable of higher resolution than that. Of course the higher the resolution the longer it takes to scan, and in this respect I was a little disappointed as its operation is rather time consuming. The compensation for this disappointment is the high resolution results obtainable with this scanner. Altogether I am very happy with the HP Scanjet G4050 Flatbed Scanner.Read full review
Very disappointing as a slide scanner. Results are inferior to the sort of 1800 dpi digital slide copier which can be found for £50 or less. Probably fine as a document or picture scanner. Difficult to believe a firm like HP would produce a product so unfit for purpose. Software for Windows 8.1 is limited. A lot of errors when trying to scan at higher resolutions.
