Breathy, tender, understated, disarming, human, Madeleine Peyroux's one of a kind lush vocal capacity finds it's sincerest expression on this classic album, songs crafted with a sublime musical touch. Cool keys, acoustic guitar and brushed drums are deftly woven with a rare jazz sophistication and treated with a modern sonic panache under the guiding genius of Larry Klein. This is an album for smoky, after hours, fireside listening, invoking scenes of pastoral reverie and languid heady summer afternoons. (For the atmosphere think Norah Jones with the wisdom of several more years. Indeed Jones' collaborator Jesse Harris cowrote three of the four Peyroux original songs featured). Two thirds of the remaining tracks are covers, chosen with care and treated with love. Cohen, Joni Mitchell's 'River' (on which K.D. Lang makes an appearance), Tom Waits' 'The Heart of Saturday Night' , Serge Gainsbourg, Charlie Chaplin's 'Smile' and the most chilled out version of Fred Neil's 'Everybody's Talking' (Midnight Cowboy) imaginable! This is a rare gem. Something to be savoured in the company of loved ones. Enjoy!Read full review

Madeleine Peyroux has a beautiful voice and her french accsent just makes it sound better. i have intraduced Madeleine to several of my friends, i got this copy for one of them. by far her best album to date.
Not really much to say except, if you haven't heard her , you are missing out! A really good CD , buy it if you get the chance. Brian (new2brian)
