I own 2 of these as I picked up one really cheap as the battery had gone and the seller said he could not get the software to work anymore, that is true as Sony has scrapped the Sonic 4.3 software but I found a nice little software JSymphonic which works well on these types of Walkman and was a free download, I did find that you cannot run the 2 types of software together one or other which is not that bad I just kept the one Walkman with all the Sony software and the other one has all it's songs etc with symphonic software the sound output of these Walkmans are brilliant you can change the setting output to use headphones or connect to mp3 input on a amp or powered speaker

Great little device. I already have one but lost the charger so bought this one to get replacement. It's a great piece of kit with loads of storage for your music easy to navigate and find what you want to listen too. Unfortunately the technology is old so it's very difficult to find a programme to load new music onto device. It used to be simple drag and drop. Sony likes the money I guess and have made it difficult and outdated. You can get around it though so don't be put of. Walkman is as good a sound quality as you will find and they are robust with good battery life. Difficult to see the menu on the sun though but just go for shuffle!

I bought this because my old philips was getting a bit full, and because i only wanted a music player not a do everything overpriced fashion statment. It does what it says it plays music well, although you may have to go to sony's web site to download the latest update and the only software that lets you transfer music to the device, and search the web for the volume lock hack to increase your enjoyment. But once it's done it sounds a lot better and you'll never look back. I won't be changing this for sometime to come.
I love this - in fact I have more than one as I use one for audio books and another for the more usual music. Using Sony's attrac3 format to store music on it I have managed to cram over 19,000 songs on mine. I would advise users to store their songs on the PC in MP3/WMA format as those are much more widely used formats and convert to to attrac3 only when loading them onto the device. This is done using the SonicStage software downloadable from the Sony site. This software is the only downside to these players. You can only load and play music through this program which is too clever for the job and can be a pain.
Do not purchase one of these! The software is now defunked and no longer exists. If you already have connect player installed on your p.c, it is probably ok. after days of trying, I could not get the software to work at all.
