The camera amazing features and great zoom. I have started using it to take nature shots and is performing well. I suggest taking plenty of extra high powered re- chargeable batteries with you.

The s2980 at 14mp with a reasonable sized screen and a decent range of optical zoom is in overall spec terms a vast improvement over my beloved s5000... And there is no denying that it does offer a number of benefits... But... Yes, you knew there was one coming! The build quality has gone. An s5000 series fee list s solid and well made. The s2980 in comparison feels a little flimsy, and too light. I enjoy using it, but miss the solid reliability that my ancient S5000 had. Technically it's excellent. It stands up well to comparison with much more recent cameras. 14mp is plenty. If you need more, you also need a bunch of other stuff that adds up to a DSLR not a bridge cam. If the build quality was as good as the s5000 I would be raving about this camera, but I have to temper my enthusiasm and evangelical prose. I feel somehow a little cheated. Although the tech has improved, the feel and user experience is a retrograde step. For the money, these days these are a bargain. If you have not experienced the solid build quality of previous series, then this is going to feel fine. But if you are used to an older version, or have owned a solidly built 35mm SLR, then I suggest you have a play with one before you buy.... As any photographer knows, if the camera doesn't feel right, you won't get the shots you want.Read full review

Our existing compact camera was reaching the end of its life, and we were fed up with its poor quality, especially in low-lighting conditions. I bought the FinePix wanting a substantially better model that would cope with a variety of conditions. We were very pleased with our purchase. The 18x optical zoom made telescopic shots very easy, and is without doubt the most appealing function. We also like the Panorama option, which automatically 'stitches' together 2 or 3 shots as you pan the camera. There is a wide range of scene selections, or the option for full manual adjustment of the settings. We like this flexibility. The card slot will also take SDHC as well as SD cards. The most disappointing feature is the built-in microphone, which produces a background 'hiss' over movies, whichever quality level is selected. Although the movie picture quality is great (includes HD movie), the microphone lets the audio side down badly, making it not the best camera for home filming. Overall, though, we were satisfied with our purchase, and would probably buy a similar product again, providing the microphone issue could be improved.Read full review
This product was recommended to me by a friend who is a very good photographer. I'm still learning how to get the best out of it, but in general it is reasonably simple to use (it would help if I read the manual hahaha!!. Will be taking it on holiday with me shortly and I am pretty confident that I will be able to get some great pictures of family (as well as kangaroos). The buttons and switches are easy to operate and with auto focus, red eye detector, blink detector etc. Therefore even an amateur like me is able to get some pretty good pictures
I Up graded from a 5mp FUJiFILM FinePix model that had never let me down. I have another Camera that is 16mp, but wanted another Fujifilm. Almost everything with the S2980HD was a step up from the old model. I took my Grand daughters Christening Photos with it on 5th Feb 2017. took out the SD card transferred photos into computer file. On putting SD card back in to the Camera, a Message came on the Screen "Turn off Camera and back on" ? after afew times (20+) no joy. I went to bed. On a problem search for the model, I came across someone else that had recently endured same problem, and ironically while changing the sd card and batteries had dropped the camera, and it worked again? So I dropped my camera from 2 foot to a carpeted floor, and yes mine also started to work again? I saw repair prices up to £100+. So apart from the sudden stop working of the camera I am reasonably happy with the model (be it slightly worried how it failed, and the method of resorting the usage of it).Read full review
