It's a CPU with lots of cores and a decent clock speed. There is scope for unthrottling with appropriate memory and motherboard. Avoid any MSI A320 chipset motherboard for this CPU (best to avoid any budget motherboard). ASRock B450 works fine with any RAM

I recently upgraded from my Intel i7 4790K to this fairly new Ryzen 7 and it has to be one of the best decisions I've made. The 2700X trumps any processor that has come before it and is still at the top of the league in terms of performance and capability. I also chose to retire my 5 year old liquid cooling system and try out the stock cooler that comes along with it, the Wraith Prism. For a stock cooler I can say incredible things about how this fan keeps the CPU in check without touching the settings whatsoever! The fan comes with RGB capabilities which look absolutely stunning when partnered with other RGB products, it's by far the best performing and best looking stock cooler I have ever seen. With both CPU and the cooler in mind, the processors ability to overclock and constantly change the settings based on your systems temperature (which the fan is brilliant at maintaining) and performance is amazing and messing with the overclock manually with just the stock cooler would be rather pointless. This processor works well and is easy to install as long as you know how. My son noticed after this upgrade that performance in all of his games improved, however that could be that his old processor was a bottleneck for his graphics card, which we didn't upgrade at that time. My partner has the same processor and he agrees that it works really well, he uses his to compile code and it does it very fast. Overall I would recommend this processor.

Being a bit outdated at the time of this writing, this is still a great CPU in almost all respects. Personally I appreciate the fact that it runs Windows 7 with no issues, and intend to use it that way as long as possible. Linux is also happy with it. You can stick this CPU in any AM4 board which are widely available. If you overclock, do provide some better cooling than the stock solution.
