This purchase was a second body as I already have the Sansung version which is identical apart from the software. As a keen amateur I find this former top of the range Pentax has all the features (and more) that I need and takes Pentax lenses back to the year dot! More up to date cameras may have better sensitivity and more pixels but for a former 35mm film user this camera gives the flexibility of exposure and quality that I need. Lovely to handle and great viewfinder, armoured metal frame body and water resistant switches/buttons means this can be an almost go anywhere camera. The anti-shake mechanism gives an extra 2 or 3 stops, useful for the longer focal length. Cheap auto focus 35mm era lenses by Pentax and others are availble on Ebay very reasonably, just allow for an effective increase in 35mm format of 1.5x when used on this camera due to the smaller area of the CCD. Designed for a shutter life of 100,000 activations there are various free sites on the web where you can check the shutter count of your second hand purchase. The stock lenses, whether the Samsung or Pentax versions (exactly the same, made in the same factory) are pretty good too. Get one while you can.Read full review
Having used a Pentax MG up to about 20 years ago I wanted a dslr that would allow me to shoot in auto when I wanted but easily switch to manual with vintage lenses without too much hassle. The K10D could not be more perfect! As a mid range dslr (of it's era) it does not have lots of pre-set functions (that I am aware of) it simple has a choice of auto, semi auto, shutter/aperture/sensitivity priorities or manual. I can literally shoot as if I'm back with my Pentax mg but without having to worry about cost of film and processing but switch to point and shoot if I feel so inclined with the kit lens. I would highly recommend this model to anyone wishing to dabble into dslr from a film background. The only negative is the ability at higher ISO settings. Newer cameras do produce much better results but that's what an additional 10 years R&D achieves and you pay for it £. For an inexpensive used camera the K10D offers an affordable, high quality solution!Read full review

I have created a digital camera with my excellent quality Pentax K lenses, at a fraction of the cost. I am very happy with the quality of the photographs, but focusing the lenses in the traditional way. This model was I have read, one of the best cameras of its time, it still has a very contemporary feel, even though technology has moved on.

The Pentax K10D is a top notch DSLR camera at a bargain price. Sure you can do better with a more modern camera but the Pentax with an excellent Tamron tele lens is a great alternative and you don't have to spend mega bucks. I bought mine several years ago and she's still going strong. Look for one in top notch order- try and get one that is boxed as those tend to be better looked after. Back in the late 2000's the K10D won a shed load of awards- and for very good reason. They are so well built!!! A great camera which I would 100% recommend to anyone up to intermediate level- even advanced users have said how well it performs in all conditions. Yes- it is slightly on the heavy/bulky side but the images have always been very crisp and 10.2mp is plenty in all honesty. Look to pay up yo 350GBP for the whole kit if you want the best- yes you can get the body for 120GBP but you then have to sort lenses etc- Go boxed if you can find one as the instruction book is as thick as the bible!!!!Read full review
