I bought this as a cheap way to experience the difference between my P.C. and a Mac, Unfortunately i didn't realise that even though my PC was built way before this Mac was manufactured ,the Mac is now considered by Apple to be outdated and is not supported by a lot of apps anymore i.e. Adobe Flash-player. Although it is a powerful machine I have to say that I can't consider it to be anymore powerful than my own home built P.C., it also seems to be very over manufactured,i.e. heavy aluminium case, way to many fans ,massive heat-sink etc. Although I am glad that I tried this machine it hasn't made me want to go out and buy an overpriced more up to date Mac.
love it always wanted one of these couldn't afford new so these was the best to try. just wish there was more support from apple as its the old one like windows xp
Fantastic, does all that I wanted, for a newbie to Apple systems, before may be paying the full amount for a new Apple.
I bought this to replace my 733MHz G4, which finally stopped working after 12 years of faithful and reliable service running Final Cut Pro (although I have since mamaged to repair it - quite an endorsement of Apple's build quality!) Despite its age, the G5 is an impressive beast, both physically and performance-wise, and now represents astonishing value for money. All of my software for the G4 installed and runs well with the exception of Final Cut Pro 4, which is not compatible with the G5 graphics card. I have upgraded to Final Cut Studio 6, and although this cost more than the G5 it is a huge step up in features and performance, and the whole upgrade cost was a tiny fraction of the cost of the original G4 system back in 2002! As mentioned in another review, this G5 will not run much of the later software written for Macs with Intel processors. However, if you are looking for an inexpensive but powerful professional edit suite then the G5 with Final Cut Studio 5 or 6 is an excellent combination.Read full review
I bought this power-mac to run Final Cut Pro, as I didn't previously own a mac. It does this very well, however because of apple dropping support for the G5's CPU's at leopard most really recent software won't run on it. However if your buying for an editing machine, this is a good choice, however bear in mind that FCP 6 is the last supported version. Compared to the price of a modern Mac Pro, the value for money is excellent.
