I had an old Thinkpad T420 and saw a YouTube tutorial which recommended upgrading to this processor. I am glad I did. The old processor was no slouch but was dual core i5 and on a laptop more than 6 years old. This i7-2670QM was easy to fit. Fairly easy access on the Thinkpad. (The BIOS was the latest which is apparently something you should check). I tend to run with several web browsers open and dozens of web pages open as well as music playing etc. This processor - combined with the 16Gb RAM I upgraded to - copes with everything I throw at it. It does not feel as if I am running an old machine at all. I triple boot with Windows 10, Macbuntu and one other Linux. All three systems run smoothly. This is a good investment as I have bought some more years for this excellent well-built workhorse laptop. The processor does not run hot and has caused no issues. Unfortunately HD3000 is too low for my daughter's Fortnite game and I can't switch and use the already existing NVIDIA GT525M which is powerfull enough, but this has nothing to do with the i7 CPU I bought, it is working perfect, cleaned fans, new thermal paste, low temperature, perfect upgrade for an old i3 2nd gen laptop. ***** 5 STARS ***** fully satisfied of the purchase.

Pretty straight forward replacement to old i3. Just make sure you pick correct chip. Test encoding took 161 seconds with i3, now 70 seconds with i7. Well worth changing CPU and get another couple of years from laptop.

CPU runs fin but in my laptop I find its running hot I think this is due to it being Sandy bridge and I have Ivy bridge prior but other than that its good
